Remembering vocabulary is difficult! In this lesson, I’ll show you five simple ways to remember new words that you learn. If you follow these suggestions, you WILL improve.
before I listen to the lesson I must say thank you very much teacher ronnie
Very useful lesson. Way to go!
Learning a few words and knowing how to use them in sentences is far better than memorizing words without knowing how to use them in useful context.
Dear Ronnie! I like your manners of doing interresting lessons. You are an extraodinary teacher! I highly appreciate this oppotunity to be in your virtual class.
As for this topic, it’s very useful and only one thing has hasitated me. You see, my experiance demonstrates that learning words a student mustn’t mix languages. Otherwise he/she will forget a word in inappropriate moment. That’s why I personally think that the last tip is not the best. But you are THE BEST!!! Thank you.
Good lesson Ronnie, I like the way you try to help us to understand english language.
I’m spanish speaker, maybe I can help you to improve your spanish.
I repeat, repeat and repeat a word many times but then I almost instantly forget it. :(
Salam Alukum Dat ,
yes that’s because you learn them with out concentrating .. try to concentrate and I’m sure that you will remember them when you need them ..
I’m your friend Hessah from Saudi Arabia .
I advise you to watch English series like Friends (a little bit old but very funny) or How i met your mother. Do this everyday ‘Dat’ and you’ll notice a big improvement after just one month. I’m gonna kill myself if it’s not the case :p
Hi Ronnie!Hope you well!Thank’s for useful lesson.I wana ask you to advice me movie website where i can get movie with subtitels, cause my memory get better new words per movie.Thank’s in advance!
You tube many have some English sub-titled movies…..I know for sure they have TV shows!!!!
Sorry Ronnie, I can’t leave a comment. Only can for ‘Reply this comment’, I don’t know why.. Well, I like a lot to watch your videos, You are very funny, and I can to hear all you talk. But I am very upset, hehehehe. You are learning japanese and spanish, but where are the portuguese? ahahahahahaha, Just kidding!
I’ve also ever learnt Japanese for a long time and I knew that’s more difficult than English. I used to do something you said such as speak all the day, write vocabulary, draw pictures and now I can remember to write some letters and easy sentences.
– Ohayoo Gosaimasu.
– Watachi wa PAO desu.
– O-genki desu ka.
– Kyo wa nan yoobi desu ka.
– Kore wa nan desu ka.
– Anata wa Ronnie-san desu ka.
– Doomo arigato gosai masu.
Thanks for the tip, it’s really important to do that, hey! I’m a brazilian, so if you want to learn portuguese someday.. rsrs’ I’m really thankful .. see you next class ..
I guest am lucky because am audio learn any way you can support you English language by writing your needing from market in en , or watch movie that’s very helpful to keep word in your brain , ( I have question am very good in english but there is problem always stand in my conversation How I know that word it’s use or not like old History word and mean in a lot of word like -image,photo,picture- that is really confuse!
That’s really tricky! Sometimes you only learn that by reading/listening/watching a lot of English-language stuff. But good dictionaries will often say whether a word is informal, colloquial, slang, vulgar (swearing), obsolete (not used any more), technical, etc. Thesauruses sometimes explain the difference between very similar words as well (an example).
You forgot : learning English with Ronnie is funny and it’s a very good way to remenber the lesson !
Thanks a lot, it’s a pleasure to watch you video for me.
All my best
Jean
Hi! I’m …. I’m What can I say? I love you Ronnie you are so sweet. Here in Iraq from a rural village, I follow your lessons to teach my intermediate students. I begin to behave just like you and students like rude words.
Great advices!
Chair in Spanish is “silla”, it would be pronounced like ‘c-ya’
It’s nice to see you learning my language.
English, French, Japanese, Spanish, etc. Incredible!
hi,Ronnie and thank you for this lesson very much.Your tips are very useful. And I have a question for you. My English teacher told me that if I dont like what other person does or something like that, I can say about it using the present continuous tenses. For example:’She is always asking questions.’ Is it correct? And do native speakers often use it? Answer, please)
pretty awesome lesson thanks Ronney so much about that an easy lesson it’s very useful for all beginners :)best greeting from Egypt to you :D
I have confused in some points like i don’t know how can i use ” either ” and when also how can i use ‘ neither ” and the last one is two form 2 adjectives form I mean ‘ ignore ‘ form when we have two form for ignore those are ‘ Ignorant ‘ and ignorance ‘ when can i use both I’m sure every one have different function actually i looking for lesson explain these points
thanks :)
The other thing you asked about is being able to recognize if the word is a verb (ignore), an adjective (ignorant, or a noun (ignorance). I will try to make a lesson on this to help you!!!
I used to try to learn certain number of words every day. It was boring. (I found words in a dictionary and tried to memorize them.)
Then I read tales for little babes. They were so easy to understand. There were also pictures in such books. I did reading every day. My favorite fairy tale was “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum. I also finished “Through the looking glass”, by Lewis Carrol. I read books only in original (full books). Now I’m reading “The adventure of Tom Sawer”.
I also watch movies every day (without subtitles). I can guess meanings of some words from the context. It’s easier for me to learn words when I see images and hear words. I’m too bad at arts, especially in drawing! I use my imagination to draw things in my mind!
Aye, vocabulary lessons are useful on EngVid!
I love lessons about slang like “body parts”, “how slang is made” by Ronnie, lessons by James and so. I find sentences and examples with new words, which helps me to imagine and memorize things. Then I try to use them when I communicate with people. It’s impossible to learn anything without using it!
Hello Ronnie,
I love your lessons so much! You are a really good teacher! =)
Well, Ronnie, could you teach us (not native speakers) how to pronounce different words with /æ/ and /e/ sounds, please? You know, we don’t have those sounds in Russian, so I just don’t see any difference between them. I pronounce “sad” and “said”, “had” and “head” in the same way. I am so upset! =(
So, could you add a video lesson on this topic? =)
I like to see a series like Supernatural, Dexter, Big Bang Theory…and I so many words but the most terrible is the expressions! I learned than American people like to talk so much using expressions.
Márcia from Brasil-Brasília

Hi, I think you have little mistake in the quiz “You try to remember has many new words as you can every day” – not “has” but “as”.
Thanks for great lesson!
hallo frau Ronnie
It was a great Vid
You talk about learning another language like Japanese. I joined to .englishtown.com it is so great site .
I asked if you can tell me a payed site that can help me to learn Germany language online like .englishtown.com ???? please
I love the Ronnie’s lessons. She was the first native english speaker that I could understand completelly (Then I met all teachers from engvid). Anyway, Thanks Ronnie!
Hello Ronnie,
This is the method that I used to memorize the words every day:
first of all, to write the word in front of the paper and write what means this word in the back side.
Second, to ear people talking in english every day: Normally I take on in CNN, BBC, to following your english class (of corse) and sametimes following movies.
Also I talk in English every day: If I don1t have anybody to talk I make alone or with the TV or whith you in my computer.
In resumo, this is a very consistent way and afford us to achieve a very good english skills.
I love your english classes teacher!
and send my very good wishes to you in this new year.
Yesss
In the same way, if you like working on technology, you can use a freeware called “Anki”, it’s a flashcard system. You can download a packet of flashcard or create your own, and can add pictures, sounds (prononciation…). In addition to that, you can synchronize computer, smartphone….
The second method, earing/listening, in the Internet Virtual World, is to use skype. You can find a lot of free website where a lot of people want to do an exchange language. There you can talk with natives for free!!!
I agree with you anselmo. One of the best way to speak English fluently is “self talking”(talk with your self).I guess it can be apply to learn any language.
I like you very much Ronnie and i like your style of teaching! Your lessons are really useful for me, and i’m happy that i can understand everything that you’re saying, because my English is not so good, in fact i can understand but i don’t know many words.. that’s my problem. I’m sure that you’ll help me to approve my English.
Greetings from Bulgaria :)
Hello Ronnie! I’ve got the big problem with my vocabulary. I confuse the synonyms. For example: wholly, totally, completely, entirely etc. I can’t understand when I have to use one word and when I have to use another one? Help me? Nobody can explain to me this except you!

Hi Ronnie!
Please help me. I wanted to ask you whether we can use “have” with “got”? Like, in the american english we get to here “do you have” and in the british english we get to here “have you got” or “i have got to go now”. Please help me. Regards in advance.
plz Ms Ronnie if it’s possible to attach the words of your speech to the videos because the YouTube caption turns speech into so many wrong words I’m very grateful for your goodness sake
Hi, Ronnie. I know this request is somewhat annoying because it’s not related to the lesson. But…
Well, i don’t want to beat around the bush, I’m in trouble with some questions prepared for my final oral test. And I really need you help.
To be honest, I have ask Miss Rebecca for help with one of them (a second ago). And I still have difficulties with two other ones. Could you please help me deal with it (you just give me the clues, that’s enough)? Since I know you’re one of very helpful teachers here. Moreover, you’re a business teacher.
1. What risks you would prepare to take in order to ensure the success of your business?
2. Discuss: What do you think a multinational company working in a developing country should provide for its staff as well as the wider community?
Thank you so much. Please reply me as soon as possible because I’m really in hot water now. Looking forward to yours reply.
Hi Ronnie
Like as you said, in Arabic there are many words, which has the same meaning and pronunciation in English , for example:
1-cotton ” cotton” as well.
2- camel “jamal”
3- giraffe ” zarafa”
4- stable “istabl”
and so many .

Hi Ronnie,
I’ve been teaching both written and spoken English for years in India. Most of my students have been graduates and post graduates. Now I’ve moved to Australia and have volunteered to teach English to immigrants. I was really lucky to find you on the internet as you lessons especially on pronunciation are exceptional. Thank you very much ideeed! William

Thank you …
my greeting, to all your team really it is awesome method to teach grammar english speking techniq thank you so much for this free video teaching, again GOD bless you…….
Thanks You very much ! I appreciat your lesson, and mainly the way of explaining. But I have a simple remark is that people when he want to speak english and remember his stuff of vocabulary he must think with the same language he want to lean “english” because if he accustum to reflex with her native language he will be more lazy to lean and he will get used to do translation even he want to use a word. But generaly you still the Best !
Hi Ronnie, good job! It is a pleasure to listen your lessons though the topic is not very amazing… You can make every boring topic intresting for everyone. Thanks a lot and greetings from Siberia!
HI RONNIE! I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE PRONUNCIATION OF SOME WORDS, FOR EXAMPLE THE NUMBER “FORTY” WHEN I’M TRYING TO SPELL IT, IT SOUND LIKE I WAS SAYING “FOUR” AND “TEA”. I’M FROM LATIN AMERICA, AND WE USUALLY HAVE THAT PROBLEM WITH WORDS LIKE THAT. ANOTHER EXAMPLE “THROUGH” I CAN’T SPELL IT EITHTER. COULD YOU PLEASE MADE A VIDEO EXPLAINING THE CORRECT WAY TO PRONOUNCE THAT KIND OF WORDS? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT…
Dear Ronnie,
I really like the way how you teach.

Thanxz for your wonderful teaching Ronnie..
Your tips is so helpful to remember the words.. and I started these exercise…
I wanna talk to my friends thru skype.
Hey, Ronnie, babe, if we shouldn’t try to learn as many new words as possible every day – then we should probably ask native speakers to use only one new word when they talk to us … That’s stupid, IMO! …
excuse me miss , ronnie i wanna ask you a question ,please
atmy study i ‘ve to study many words in many aspects to be able to translate from english into arabic or from arabic into english and if i tried to put each word in a sentence it would be too hard so what should i do?

The first rule reminds me one famous Lenin’s citation: to learn, to learn and to learn. These words ornamented thousands schools in Soviet Union (and still ornament schools built during Soviet epoch).
Hi Ronnie :D I like your “bimbo” example. Bimbo in Japanese means a stupid girl, doesn’t it? I didn’t know that before I watched this video. Thank you for your sharing :)
I think Bimbo in Japanese means the person has no money. In English , Bimbo means a girl who is stupid :)Listen again. I hope it’s correct. Haha
i got 78 marks but i have a problem that i always try to learn lots of words that create problems and then i forget all…. will anybody tell me how to learn words and how to remember them
In my language we often use diminutives for things, animals, people’s names and is a rule for that.
I was wondering if there is some kind of a rule in English? For example :if I have a young dog I can call it puppy (doggy, doggie). But if I have a small (tiny, little ) object and I want to say the word for that object in such way to express that is small, tiny but so cute? Thank you, you’re the best teacher I ever had !
Yes, usually in English it is -ie or -y. However, if the word has too many syllables it becomes difficult to pronounce and doesn’t work!
Good morning Ronnie!
First of all, I discovered this website just a few weeks ago but I started to use it every day because it’s amazing.
I’ve been learning English for 8 years but I still have SO many new things to learn and so many already-known-things to refresh :)
Now I have to focus on vocabulary and some grammar rules I’ve forgotten because I will have my third-year exam in English in the University.
I try to follow your advices in the video, but I was wondering…what if I have to learn a word such EAGER, can I also write down EAGERLY and EAGERNESS? Is it a good idea or will it be more complicated?
I will try to learn 10 different words a day.
Thanks a lot, you are great!
Hello Ronnie. Your lessons are very useful. Thanks a lot. Concerning the number of words to learn a day (that is 10) how can I build my way, in my case, I am learning 7 different languages?
It takes very much time a day.
Thanks for reply.
When I was on highschool, my teachers also taught me as same as you. However, I understood a little. Fortunately, I have watched a video “5 steps to speak a language” by Quang Hung Pham. This is not only a teaching vid but also a scientific research. Now I’m not so good but I believe I will be successful with this menthod.
Dear Ronnie, thank you very much for your great lessons.
Is there any test on the internet about whether a person is a visual, auditory or etc learner?
I’m from Poland… Polish language doesin’t have a lot of similar words to English. But thank u for lesson!
That’s true! English is more Germanic, but Polish has more in common with the other Slavic languages.
(I once found myself in Kraków with a terrible cough, and went looking for a drugstore/pharmacy. Eventually I found an apteka — which I eventually realized is a cognate of the English word apothecary, a very old-fashioned word for the same thing. “Pharmacy” is from Greek, “apothecary” from Latin!)
Thank you for your smile because when I see you smiling, I want learn a lot of new words…LOL…You are a good teacher… Thank you RONNIE… You can be proud of you…
Hi Ronnie my name is Margo, I have problem with the words; probable, proceed , projectile, prolong, promotion, propel, prospect, protest, I didn’t understand how used this words in a sentence could you help me please.

Speaking on enjoying my tongue, it’s good that more than 30% of English comes from the Latin.
What makes it much easier for me to speak Portuguese.
Thank you some much for your videos and for your sense of humour when you explain English lessons. You make the lessons more atractive for the learners.

Hi ronnie , I need your help , actually i am very good at listening and reading , when there is a conversation between 2 native speakers i almost understand what they are taking about but when some one talk to me or when i want to talk to some one most of the words escape from my head , How can i overcome that??? and finally thank you for your very useful lessons.
The answer of the first question is so false, please change it.
I try to remember as many new words as you can every day (for example 7 words) this is my maximum. Ans i can remember some of them or ALL… so why you say the opposit ?
(as many new words as you can every day)it’s a relative sentence so It depends from person to person.
You are right Ronnie and my experience is that i learn short news whith new words and then repeat the hole news until sleeping or driving.this is a usuful way to remember new words whith context.
I like to draw pictures along with new word plus use in sentence is easy way to memorize voaculary . If someone really want to increase his vocabularies they should read variety of topics as many they can

The first time i got 100 on Engvid.
Thank you Ronnie,
you explain it clearly and fun of course :D
I’ve got :D !

hi,Ronnie and thank you for this lesson very much.Your tips are very useful. And I have a question for you. My English teacher told me that if I dont like what other person does or something like that, I can say about it using the present continuous tenses. For example:’She is always asking questions.’ Is it correct? And do native speakers often use it? Answer, please)
Thank you for this advice. I sometimes forget that repetition is essential….!!!!!!
pretty awesome lesson thanks Ronney so much about that an easy lesson it’s very useful for all beginners :)best greeting from Egypt to you :D
I have confused in some points like i don’t know how can i use ” either ” and when also how can i use ‘ neither ” and the last one is two form 2 adjectives form I mean ‘ ignore ‘ form when we have two form for ignore those are ‘ Ignorant ‘ and ignorance ‘ when can i use both I’m sure every one have different function actually i looking for lesson explain these points
thanks :)
http://www.engvid.com/english-grammar-either-neither/
That is a lesson from Alex on either!
The other thing you asked about is being able to recognize if the word is a verb (ignore), an adjective (ignorant, or a noun (ignorance). I will try to make a lesson on this to help you!!!
Hello Ronnie!
Great! Thanks for sharing!
I love your lessons, they are so useful, so clear and so nice. Thank you, teacher Ronnie!
Hopefully,
Me.
In spanish, chair means “la silla” :) thanks for video it was so good
Thanks for yours video! It’s funny bimbo means a male child in Italian language XD

I think Anki/Skype is a good combination.
BTW thanks a lot Ronnie for all your lessons.
I agree with you anselmo. One of the best way to speak English fluently is “self talking”(talk with your self).I guess it can be apply to learn any language.
Amazing classes! You are a great teacher and it is a very big pleasure to watch all your videos.
Thanks,this engvid is useful.
hi ronnie thanks
thank you. Your advice is simple & helpful.
I love this site.
They all mean the same!
Ooh so many people here I ain’t imagine
sorry I’m very new
great teacher Ronnie I’ve watched some of you videos through you tube but it’s the first time to me here I was surprised that here is many people but it must be expectable because of your
very good style in teaching
Hi,
Roni,I have a question.Could you tell me about past participle (Third form of the verb)I know according to grammar past participle gets used
1-in perfect tenses
2-in Passive voice
3-as a adjective
But in the following structure,I am not able to get that in what sense past participle is getting used.
Here are examples.
1-Get started (Why past participle is getting used after get)
2-Get itemized
3-Get organized
and other examples like that
Please,if you make me clear this,I would really appreciate it.
Kinds Regards,
Farooq
Hi Ronnie!
Please help me. I wanted to ask you whether we can use “have” with “got”? Like, in the american english we get to here “do you have” and in the british english we get to here “have you got” or “i have got to go now”. Please help me. Regards in advance.
Yes, you can use have + got.
EX I’ve got a cold!
Thank you teacher. :)
Hi, Indian!! So good to see you.
It should be thanks in advance. Not regards.

Ronnie: I can teach you Spanish and you can teach me English ¿by Skype?, greetings from Colombia.

But generaly you still the Best !
thank you ^^

Hey, Ronnie, babe, if we shouldn’t try to learn as many new words as possible every day – then we should probably ask native speakers to use only one new word when they talk to us … That’s stupid, IMO! …

atmy study i ‘ve to study many words in many aspects to be able to translate from english into arabic or from arabic into english and if i tried to put each word in a sentence it would be too hard so what should i do?

In my language we often use diminutives for things, animals, people’s names and is a rule for that.
I was wondering if there is some kind of a rule in English? For example :if I have a young dog I can call it puppy (doggy, doggie). But if I have a small (tiny, little ) object and I want to say the word for that object in such way to express that is small, tiny but so cute? Thank you, you’re the best teacher I ever had !
Yes, usually in English it is -ie or -y. However, if the word has too many syllables it becomes difficult to pronounce and doesn’t work!
thanks Ronnie. Whenever i watch your video,i feel very excited. you’re a good teacher.

Thanks a lot, you are great!
i really like Ronnie, teaching because of the way of she communicating to the people its really good and funny.
Me too.
Thanks Ronnie!I love your classes!! :) You are very funny! :)

Is there any test on the internet about whether a person is a visual, auditory or etc learner?
Many thanks Ronnie . Actually we should follow these rules to get our vocabulary improved but I think it involves alot of efforts and time .
Really useful lesson! Thank you very much Ronie!!!!
thank you teacher!!
Thank you Ronnie! You are best teacher!
