Indeed, another great lesson from Rebecca.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Hi, how’ve you been Rebecca? Just one question about the first part of your presentation.

Is the following question on the board correct? “Could you please lend me $25?” I think it should be “Could I borrow $25 please?” because you are taking some money from someone.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Interesting to know that psychology plays an important role when it comes to getting people do something for you.

Thanks for this superb video lesson Rebecca.

      Wednesday, April 20th 2016

You could ask the question in either of the two ways – the one I mentioned in the lesson or the one you wrote about. Both are perfectly acceptable. Yes, psychology is at the heart of all our interactions with others, isn’t it? It’s just that sometimes we understand what’s at play and at other times we don’t know what’s going on! So, I found this research about using the word “because” to be quite interesting. Great to hear from you again, Regino. My best wishes to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Now, I could make polite, soft, and long requests for anything for easily getting people to say “yes” to my request.
I’d like to thank you for this helpful lesson, Rebecca.:)

Tuesday, April 19th 2016

Yes, well these techniques will improve your chances of getting a positive response. Thanks for your feedback and all the best!

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Hi everybody! Dear Rbecca, thanks for this lesson. I have taken the quiz but in my humble opinion the question #2 could be answered with the second option. :)

Tuesday, April 19th 2016

Thanks for your feedback, but normally the word “may” is more formal than the word “can”. Also the word “accompany” is quite formal. Hope that helps you to understand better. Please check our resource for more ideas:

    http://www.engvid.com/english-resource/getting-people-to-say-yes/

    All the best to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

These exercises are helping me a lot.

Tuesday, April 19th 2016

So glad to hear you are benefiting. My best wishes to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thank you, dear Rebecca!
For below test..
8. Which of these requests is the most formal?
I was wondering if I could take two days off next week.-I chose
I hope you don’t mind my asking, but would it be at all possible for me to take a couple of days off next week? – I did not choose, because of “but would it be at all possible for me” this part. I think it is informal and very direct, it is complicated..

Tuesday, April 19th 2016

Thanks for your feedback. I understand your point. Generally though, the longer the request, the more we distance ourselves from the situation, and so it is seen as more formal and less direct. Please check my resource for added help with this topic:

    http://www.engvid.com/english-resource/getting-people-to-say-yes/

    My best wishes to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

thanks

Tuesday, April 19th 2016

Welcome! All the best to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Hi Rebecca! How are you doing?
Um… I got 8. I was like :'(… But it’s okay. :D
I’m glad because I feel like my English is improving a little every day. I consider myself advanced. I speak a good English, you’d like to hear it. I learned how to speak like an American, slang and all, but I always remind myself to not get stuck with informal English. Anyway, I’m pretty fluent.

I once considered changing my English to the British accent, but it comes out bad, so I won’t. Haha! The American is in my DNA. :D

Bye-bye! See you!
Thank you for one more video!
Oh… I love your penmanship. Hehe! =D

Tchau! :)

Tuesday, April 19th 2016

Yes, Renata, you seem quite fluent and I’m sure you will keep on improving because you care so much. Learning a little bit at a time is a great brain-friendly way to progress. My best to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thank… :)

Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Welcome! All the best to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thank you Rebecca to learn us both English and psychology in the same time.

Wednesday, April 20th 2016

You are welcome, my friend. So let me also tell you that you should say: Thank you for teaching us…. and not thank you for learning us. It is a common mistake so don’t worry. Just remember that teachers teach and students learn…hopefully! My best to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

thank you

Wednesday, April 20th 2016

You’re welcome, Said. My best wishes to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thank you Rebecca, Your lesson is useful But it is hard to say because these expression longer I can’t remember however I try to remember.

Wednesday, April 20th 2016

The best thing to do in such cases is to start with the medium -sized request and learn just ONE expression / question, which you can use with everyone in the beginning. Then, slowly move to learn one expression in each category. Do not try to learn all the expressions at one time. Just choose one and learn that well. Thanks for your feedback and my best to you.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thank you for your recommended, if I have a chance to speak to other people I try to use short or medium request.

      Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thanks Rebecca…^^

Wednesday, April 20th 2016

You’re so welcome! All the best.

    Wednesday, April 20th 2016

I thought about another psychology tip , is add “I need your help on the requests”!Right?

Wednesday, April 20th 2016

Thanx, Rebecca for the usefu lesson. To ask someone to do something we can also use a negative sentence + positive tag, the voice goes up at the end of the tag in sentences like: “You couldn’t do me a favor, could you?”. Sounds tricky ) Am I right?

Sunday, April 24th 2016

thank you for the lesson.

I have a question.

You wrote:
“I hope you don’t mind MY asking, but could I please borrow $250?”

Would it be incorrect to say/write:
“I hope you don’t mind ME asking, but could I please borrow $250?”

If both are correct, what is the difference in meaning?
