I wish if you were my teach when I started to learn English fifty years ago,But I am sure you were not born yet.WOULD YOU PLEASE CORRECT MY COMMENT.THANKS.
I wish you were my teacher when I started to learn English 50 years ago!
Great work… almost perfect!
Thanks so much! And GOOD LUCK!
I do have a question!
The is used when both persons know of “what” they are talking about, right? So why you have to say, “I will meet you in AN hour, instead of: I will meet you in THE hour.” in that case, both, speaker and listener know of what hour they are talking about. :) Thanks and I love your classes, you’re cool!!!
That was a great lesson, although i am a beginner in english, i understand you very well, i’m from mexico, and I think you are a very good teacher, thanks for your lesson. good luck Ronnie.

It’s actually a great and helpful piece of information. I am glad that you shared this useful info with us. Please stay us informed like this. Thank you for sharing.
Can you please come with more detail that where to use ‘a’?
Hi there!
The issue is the sound you hear at the beginning of the following word disregarding weather the first letter is a vowel or a consonant.
For example,
-A one-pound meat. as much as (one) starts with the letter (o)which is vowel we hear (wan)which is consonant sound so, we use (a) not (an).
-A union,a university,a unit,a useful book, a European woman all starts with a consonant sound which is (y) as in young. BUT before words like umbrella,
uncle,and underpass we use (an)because
they starts with a vowel sound which is short( u )as in up,under, truck, ect.
On the other hand we use (an) before words starts with a consonant letter because the first letter is silent as an hour,an honest man.
Or the first letter is sounded as a vowel sound .for example
-an MP …the ( M) sounds (em).
-an X-ray….the (X) sounds( eks).
-an SOS…the (S) sounds ( es ).
PLEASE note that the letters (a,e,i,and o ) always make vowel sound, so always use (an) when the word starts with one of them. I hope that would help.BUT wait!!!! until engvid.com and Ms. Ronnie approve this comment, because I ,personal, have a problem with the English language and still need to learn more, and I could be wrong about it ,and I hope , Ms.Ronnie , correct this comment,So I feel confident.THANKS.
ADDITION to the above comment.
The letters (a,e,i,and o)always make
vowel sound except in the word (one)(one is a sight word in which the pronunciations has nothing to do with the spelling.),So use the article (an)when you see one of them at the beginning of the following word.
But the letter U makes a consonant sound and a vowel sound.
ONE MORE EXAMPLE
The letter( R )is a consonant letter,
But if you want to say ( I have one radio) you must say ( I have a radio )
because you hear the consonant sound (reh) at the beginning of the word radio. But if you want to say ( I see
one R ) you must say ( I see an R ) because you hear a vowel sound like the one you hear when you say the verb
to be (are).Briefly you should know that the letters are difirent than the sounds and there are two kinds of sounds ,vowel sounds and consonant sound.Good luck !!!
IF YOU PLEASE WAIT UNTIL ENGVID.COM AND
MS. RONNIE APPROVE THIS COMMENT.

hi ronnie ,
iam just confusing with the sentence ” i want the shoes” you have said before that the article the comes before a single noun but shoes are plural ,aren`t they ?
thanks alot
Yes, shoes are plural but you must use “the” when you talk about something for a second time or if everyone know which shoes you are talking about!
Thank you Ronnie. Your cheerful atmosphere gave me power. A, an, and the were always very confusing, but I have confidence now.
By the way, the usage of ‘even’ is not clear for me now. I hope you give us a lesson about ‘even’.
Hi Ronnie

Hope u got me,
Warm Regards,

Thanks, Ronnie. I wonder which article to use with the work university. In my country we were tought to use a. Here the rule is you use only with words where the first letter is pronounced as a vowel.
And another question: in the morning, in the afternoon. Is pronounciation same? Thanx for your reply.
Yes, there are ALWAYS exceptions to grammar rules in English! University is one!
Hi,
Let me explain more plz,
Let’s have a look 2 these 2(why n how come)in question 4m:
1.Why don’t u do ur assignment?
2.How come u don’t ur assignment?
As it’s obvious, the order is different,
(why + auxiliary verb),(how come + subject)
Does it help?! I hope so.
The best with ur English!
I learned some from you; however, I wish it was closed captioned because I cannot hear what you were saying. I did pick up something from this though.

I have one simple question about more specific things. Ronnie, you said that we should use the article “the”, but what with “this”, “these”, “that”, and “those”?
Could I use the word “this” instead of “the”? For instance: “You see a new car. This car was made by…” Is it acceptable, or I have to use “the” instead?
wow ma’am ronnie great job im so confused because we always say im from the Philippines.. then when you said that only country with united can used the word THE.. now i know why THE Philippines.. i hope i can learn more and improve my grammar.
Ronnie!!! Thanks for the lesson, was famtastic. I just wanted to make an observation. Canary Islands are NOT a country. They are part of Spain. And this makes me question if I really understand what country means. For me, countries are Japan, Egypt, United Sates, etc, or it can be applied to some zone in a country, Canary Islands, for example?
Thank you so much!!

thanks Ronnie, i really liked the way you convey your lessons i am feeling some improvement before now i couldn’t say any more anyway thanks for your helping.
Hello Ronnie,
sorry for nagging, but I have a few comments.
I have never heard of the rule, that with a country, which is comprised of many little islands, we use “the”. In fact Japan is an example of such a country (it’s comprised of thousands of small islands, apart from main four islands). I think we use “the” with plural names of places e.g. the Philippines, the Netherlands, the Bahamas etc. Also, I think you might have included, that we use “the” with names with ‘Republic’ e.g. the Dominican Republic. Would we use “the” with these countries: Russian Federation, Papua New Guinea? Many thanks
ronnie my english is very weak but i understand when other people speaking english. i feel shai when i speak inglish . how can i improve my english i am lissning your lesson everyday but still i can’t speak english what should i do plz help me thanks.

Hello Ronnie! Can you correct all the mistakes in my story? Do I Have any grammatic mistakes?
Princess Diana dies in Paris crash
The princess of Wales has died after a car crash in Paris. The accident happened after the princess left the Ritz Hotel in Paris with her companion, Dodi al Fayed-son of Harrods owner, Mohammed Al Fayed. The Princess’ Mercedes car was apparently being pursued at high speed by Photographers on motorbikes when it hit a pillar and smashed into a wall. Mr Al Fayed and the chauffeur died at the science. The princess and the bodyguard were still alive in the car, so the recue cut the wreck, and took Diana and her bodyguard to the hospital. The surgeons tried to save her life, but she died after two hours. Only Princess Diana´s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, survived the crash. Blood tests Showed the driver, Henri Paul had taken both drugs and a large quantity of alcohol before the accident.

If the word is plural (lions) we don’t use an article. However, the second time we talk about the same lions, we say THE lions as they are specific (we know which lions you are talking about)!
I like lions. The lions are dangerous.

Hi Ronnie, you are the wonderful teacher for me, thank you so much for your lesson. I learned a lot from your Video, I promise to improve my poor English to be better……Love you, teacher.
Hi! I’m sorry my English please. I’m going to try to explain me.
I’m not sure about “a” pronunciation in USA vs UK (well, and Canada as well…NZ..etc).
For example:
In–> a dog, a bottle, a brush…
1) “a” sounds like ‘a’ in ‘man’ if I’m talking with somebody from Uk?
2) In USA, people pronounce ‘a’ like in wave?
3) In Canada ‘a’ sounds always like UK people pronounce?
I’m not sure if you understand what I mean.
Thanks.
By the way I’m from Tenerife, Canary Islands :)
There are SO MANY different British, American and Canadian accents that is it impossible to tell you how each sound. Depending on what part of each country a person is from (and their education), will change how they say words!
Hi, Ronnie!
You’re an amazing teacher. I really love your lessons :) Your teaching style is very, very, very helpful, especially for non-native speakers like me.
You mentioned that you were gonna make a lesson about when we do not use articles before the nouns. Are you still gonna do this? Because I couldn’t find any similar lesson in a list of your lessons. Or you were taking about Alex’s lesson? However, that lesson doesn’t cover some confusing things, for instance, what’s the difference between “listening to music” and “listening to THE music”? Why is it “matter of fact” and not “matter of a/the fact”?
So, if you ever make a lesson about all these tricky things, many of non-native English speakers will very deeply appreciate that. ;)
Thank you again for your wonderful lessons!
We have to say listen to music because music is uncountable. Matter of fact is an idiom so we don’t use an article!
Thanks for watching!
Hi? Ronnie, thank you for your lessons. They’re really helpful.I’m a bit confused about the lakes. We don’t use “the” with lakes, do we?
Lake Ontario, for instance. What happens if we ommit the word “lake”?
We do not use THE with lake names! You must say Lake Ontario, if you omit the lake part, it is referring to the province of Ontario!
Wow! Thanks for teaching us. You are one of my favorites teachers! I am puerto rican and I wish learn much about english and its grammar. Sorry if I wrote wrong.
teacher my English knowledge is very bad. Main problem is my vocabulary. when im going to talk im getting stuck. please teach me guide me.I know u can do it for me. I have a doubt..what if while talking to someone i said, “I am from India” and then in the same conversation i have to use the word India again. Then should i use only “India” or “the India”?
Your teaching style is very attractive. Please do some lessons on following.
Not only that….. but also
Neither ………….nor
Either ………… or…..
Also the usage of which, that, who, whose, whom and in which, at which, of which etc.,
Thanks

Hi, Ronnie! I’d like to ask you a question about the use of articles:
Mr Lee is both a teacher and an engineer. And which of the two following sentences is correct?
a. Sue came with Mr Lee, a teacher and engineer.
b. Sue came with Mr Lee, a teacher and an engineer.
If possible, please reply me by email and give me an explanation. Thanks a lot.
You are AWESOME! Hey, I just wanna know when do we pronounce the article “a” as “ey” or as “ah”? Should it always be pronounce as “ah”? Oh by the way, I’m from THE Philippines. =)
Hi Ronnie,
I am the Cambodian, it is the small Country in the world map. Am I right in writing above? Are articles only use before singular noun ( uncountable ) ?
You are very good in explanation grammar. Thank you for your kindness teaching us.
Hey. Ronnie. Thank you for your lesson. I have a question. we use “the” with Organizations, government, committees, parties, associations, foundations, clubs but i have a question about an organization. We should say MIJARC Europe or the MIJARC Europe? Because it has a continent in the name. Kind regards Tiago
Hello ma’am
I got 100% in quiz but i have a doubt..there was a question “i love pink! I want _____ pink shoes!
I answered the but then i realised it is shoes..not singular..so why ate we using an article here???
Hello, Ronnie. Thank you very much. I´m learning a lot of English with you. I´ve got a pair of questions for you:
- In a part of the lesson you say “…The very first letter of the alfabet” Is it necessary to use the word “first” in this case or you use it only to increase the meaning?.
- I thought the thing you use to blow your nose was called “handkerchief”. I understand perfertly the word kleenex and we use this word in Spain too, but I want to know if “handkerchief” is only use in Britain or if this word is old fashioned or something.
Thank you very much!. By the way, the Canary Islands is not a country, this islands belongs to Spain.
great lesson on articles.i learnt that ‘a’ is used before count nouns, but i happened to see ‘a feeling’ ‘an idea’. i think the words, idea and feeling can’t be counted. is it because of exceptional rule or something else? could you clear my confusion? thanks.
Hello Ronnie mam, Can you please give me any example of country name with more than three words, with which we can use an article. And a country name with tiny islands with which we can use an article ?
I am in wait of your answer :-)
I’m curious if I want to say that I used to have strange habit of ignoring any ideas offered by inferior people because I think that their ideas can never be better than mine.
Do I need to put a or the before “strange habit” since strange modifies habit and habit is a noun? Or we have to put articles right in front of nouns only?
Hi Ronnie, can we also say: I bought some fruits. The fruits were bad.
Also, We say she is an engineer.
What about:
1. My husband is English/American. (why not an English/an American?)
2. If she were president. (Why not a president?)
3. They long for affection. (Why not an affection?)
4. I don’t like durians or I don’t like durian?
5. I don’t want to be gay or I don’t want to be a gay?
You said in the previous video “meet” in only used when we are talking about the first time, we get to know someone. But in the quiz there’s a sentence: “I will meet you in an hour”. Is it correct? I’m confused :)
Thank you, and I love your lessons and tha funny way you teach us ;)
HI RONNIE! IF THERE’S ANY MISTAKE IN THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE PLS CORRECT IT.
IN A SOLUTION,the PARTICLES OF solid STAY IN CLUSTERS.

What’s the sentence in English which the answer is exactly the same as the question?!!
Hope u got me,
Warm Regards,
fatiima!
I have no idea. Sorry.
Isn’t it”how do u do”?!!!
A:How do u do?
B:How do u do?
Anyway tnX!
how do u do?
Nice one Ronnie. My gratitude to you and the engvid team.
Another country with an article is the Ukraine.
Ukraine now lost its article, so “the Ukraine” was downgraded to “Ukraine” :D
hi ronnie can u plz tell me whats the proper meaning of how come in detail
How come = Why.
I went to the store. How come? (why?)
Because I needed to get some film.
Hi,
Let me explain more plz,
Let’s have a look 2 these 2(why n how come)in question 4m:
1.Why don’t u do ur assignment?
2.How come u don’t ur assignment?
As it’s obvious, the order is different,
(why + auxiliary verb),(how come + subject)
Does it help?! I hope so.
The best with ur English!
Ronnie’s lesson was very useful

I have one simple question about more specific things. Ronnie, you said that we should use the article “the”, but what with “this”, “these”, “that”, and “those”?
Could I use the word “this” instead of “the”? For instance: “You see a new car. This car was made by…” Is it acceptable, or I have to use “the” instead?
Yes, you can use these, this etc!
nice lecture.
Thanks a lot! :)

Many thanks
you are wonderfull and can i chat with you privet if you never mind please

Wow! I’ve got 10 out of 10, it’s really fantastic.

If the word is plural (lions) we don’t use an article. However, the second time we talk about the same lions, we say THE lions as they are specific (we know which lions you are talking about)!

Hi. I am also a teacher. I hope to be like you someday.
hi Ronnie what was the different between The & the? plz tell to me.
Thank a lot Ronnie
Depending on what part of each country a person is from (and their education), will change how they say words!
hi ronnie! You’re a great english teacher, very cool and funny. i’m preparing myself for an IELTS.

a great lesson haha ^^
Well, those were just examples… Nevertheless, thank you very much for your reply.

By the way, the Canary Islands is not a country, this islands belongs to Spain.
teacher if my frnd and me are not in The same school so should we USE AN ARTICLE????????
great lesson on articles.i learnt that ‘a’ is used before count nouns, but i happened to see ‘a feeling’ ‘an idea’. i think the words, idea and feeling can’t be counted. is it because of exceptional rule or something else? could you clear my confusion? thanks.
Thanks from Brazil! =D

Hi,Ronie
I’m curious if I want to say that I used to have strange habit of ignoring any ideas offered by inferior people because I think that their ideas can never be better than mine.
Do I need to put a or the before “strange habit” since strange modifies habit and habit is a noun? Or we have to put articles right in front of nouns only?
Thank you
Have a good night :)
thanks Ronnie…You are the best!!!
