Thank you for the useful lesson on time expressions. It’s always confusing when I have to use prepositions in a sentence. For example, I often find it difficult whether to use ‘in the weekend’ or ‘on the weekend’, and so forth. Maybe I need to refresh my grammar.

Please elicit how can: “I was tired tonight”, be grammatically correct, but unusual and bit odd.

“Tonight” refers to the current evening, right, but not a time in the past.

So, in this case we should be more flexible, and, say “I felt tired tonight” that might sound more clear!
