Hi,Emma.
There is well known Korean American site here and one day, I typed something on site and people there judged me with grammar. Please revise me.
” I was checking yelps to find an answer. Mostly there is information about all the stores. But I couldn`t get any info. What I know is usually markets here close at 10 pm. I was just hoping there will be an exception. Thanks anyway. “
What you wrote didn’t sound that bad, but I revised it a little. I didn’t know the context of the message, so I didn’t understand exactly what you were talking about. However, the grammar is fine.
” I was checking yelps.com to find an answer. Mostly, there is information about all the stores, but I couldn`t get any info. I know that markets usually close here at 10 pm. I was just hoping there would be an exception. Thanks anyway. “

Hi Emma you are a great teacher! I would like to know if you can give a lesson about ‘past participle’ I didn’t found here in the site, and I’m very doubtful about it.
Thanks! ^^’
In case Emma doesn’t do the lesson on it, here is a short explanation that will help you to understand it effectively.
There are three forms of participle: The present participle, the past participle and the perfect participle. The present participle is a participle that ends in ing. It can be used with the auxilliary verb ‘to be’ to form the continuous tense. It always takes the ‘ing’ form of the verb, even irregular verbs have an ‘ing’ form, in fact virtually all English words that end with ‘ing’ are present participles.
E. g. I am learning English. (Learning is part of the continuous verb phrase (‘am learning’)
We were running through the woods. (Running is part of the continuous verb phrase (‘were running’ ).
It can also be used as an adjective.
For example:
As an adjective: I am a working woman. (Working is used here as an adjective.)
A past participle indicates past or completed action or time. It is often called the ‘ed’ form as it is formed by adding d or ed, to the base form of regular verbs, however it is also formed in various other ways for irregular verbs.
It can be used to form a verb phrase as part of the present perfect tense.
For example:
I have learnt English. (Learnt is part of the verb phrase ‘have learnt’)
It can be used to form the passive voice.
For example:
Her hair was well brushed.
It can also be used as an adjective.
For example:
As an adjective: He had a broken arm. (Broken is used here as an adjective.)
And finaly The perfect participle indicates completed action. You form the perfect participle by putting the present participle having in front of the past participle.
For example:
having done, having finished, having read, having spoken
It can be used to form the passive voice.
For example:
Having improved her English Pia’s promotion prospects were much better.
That’s it. I lied when I said it would be short, but however, you can learn a lot from this. I really sometimes astonish myself, what a smart guy, hahaha :))
Wow, I fell asleep during this long-lasting lesson… Seriously Emma, great explanation, very useful for those who tend to take IELTS test. I think this is the longest lesson on EngVid ever made, maybe James has longer one, but I doubt about that. I wish you could make lessons this long in the future, I’m sure that we will learn more. Regards.
Hi Mark,
I had a lot to cover, but you’re right. I think it’s the longest. Thanks for watching!
Hi Emma, this is so useful, we’re really appreciate for you for conducting IELTS lessons like this and please keep it up. I’ve got a small question; is this the same thing which we will get for the General IELTS as well? I got to band score 8 each :( It’s been only couple of days that I have started studying for IELTS.
What’s the difference between Genaral and Academic IELTS ?
i liked the lesson very much. and i like the stile u speak. it wad really involving but i wish we could see some written works :) and u didn’t explain how to make that introduction, body & conclusion i mean how to begin & finish them (u r extremely kind)
Many thanks. a couple of new words along with some ideas on how to get graph description started are going to be useful. And I would really like to make a small contribution to this lesson: I’ve heard some words that might be usuful – GRADUAL RISE\FALL and SHARP RISE\FALL.. Thank you once again, Emma.. And, as Ronnie has taught us, YOUR LESSON IS DA BOMB ))
Hi Emma!!
I am going to study at Australia, but first i will cross IELTS then will able to go abroad. Please help me off the site?? Via e-mail? I will pray for your success?
I like your teaching method and i think i am able to understand you easy..
Best Regards

Thank you everyone for your comments. I know this was a long video. Thanks for taking the time to watch it.
Hi Emma, I love you; your way of teaching is really great, but you don’t do many videos and I wonder why !!?? I have been in Ireland to improve my bad English and now I think it’s a little better than before but not enough to get a job in Ireland or in Britain so I’m trying to improve the language by myself but it’s not so easy and funny like when I was in Ireland. Thank you very much for your attention. You are a great teacher!!!!
Hello emma

Hi Emma,
Thank you indeed, it’s a very useful course.
Can I say that”
This line Graph shows that
“that is one word to increase number of words”
which better to use
shows or illustrates
Hi Musawa,
Thank you for your question. First of all, make sure you don’t capitalize the word ‘graph’. Secondly, the words ‘illustrate’ and ‘show’ are both good words to use on the IELTS.
In terms of your question about ‘that’, you may or may not be able to use it depending on your sentence.
eg) The line graph shows the incidence of disease in Someland between 1994 and 2000.
In the above sentence, we can’t use the word ‘that’.
For more information on when to use ‘that’, check out Alex’s video on that/which.
Hi Emma! Its amazing what are you doing its not just about learning English, but also help us remind more stuff, I am Salesman and this help me a lot… thank you very much… Greetings from Belgium
Teacher Emma, first of all I would like to say thank you for your “wonderful” class!!! :)
Secondly I’d like to know if this frase is good: “Sales fluctuated between NZ$100 and NZ$120 in 2011”.
And finally, if possible, can you tell me what is opposit word for “peak”?
Best regards!
Rodrigo (from Brazil)

If i need to know 14th product. i wlll ask like “what is the 14th product?”
In that same way if (true) Mr. Obama is president of America. and if George washington is the First president of USA. how will you ask Obama’s turn. in question.
I am struggling to frame the question for this in English? :(
Hello Emma. It’s an interesting and useful lesson but I have a question, and I expect you could answer it. Do you know the difference between the IELTS examen and the FCE exam?. Thanks a lot in advance!

The problem with society today is that it is essentially unbalanced, with some people being paid huge salaries to work very long hours, whilst others do not have a job and have too much time on their hands. There is no middle ground. Do you agree or disagree?
It is certain that, any company, whether Multi-production or single; wish to have limited workers in field experienced, and then are paid very high wedges, as well paid extra work charges, for their extra time works. And then earn huge money. In this assay, I will give brief explanations about how two factors result in the inequality of job.
As it is understood, in year 2011, a great number of people lost their jobs, especially in Europe due to Global Economic crises. The goods and services produced from the factories lost its markets, as a result, income for the company simultaneously reduced. Therefore, workforce has to reduced to small number, selecting by skilled workers, to work more extra hours, in return, they were compensate as per the extra working hours. So they draw more salary in return.
On other hand, fresh graduates from different fields of study do not have work experience, and being so, organizations were reluctant to recruit in their company. Even, if so, in low wedges, but the employee have no interest to work in low salary. By doing so, they were left as unemployed in the job market. Certainly, this increases the unemployment ratio in the global.
In conclusion, the organizations wish to have limited workers, but with far more experienced and long working hours, as to increase their daily income products. Recruiting fresh employee takes time to cope up the organizations work ethic and its rules. These discourage the employer, to employ the newly graduates in their company. Hence, this leads to raise of youth unemployment problems for every country in the world as well as unfairness to human society too.
Dear Emma

Hi Emma,
It is me Javid. By the way the word ‘depicts’ has got some superiority over others when we describe graphs, because a graph is an encoded form of information that gives us a visual impression, and the word ‘depict’ means ‘represent something by drawing’. Am i right teacher?

Hello. Emma,
could you tell me,what does phrases (shot up) mean?. Is it has the same meaning of increase?
“Shoot up” (“shot up” is past tense) can mean a few things.
1. One of the meanings of “shoot” is to move very quickly, like a bullet or an arrow. You could say, “Usain Bolt shot past the other runners and crossed the finish line.” So “shoot up” means to rise very quickly. “My blood pressure shot up when I heard the news.” “‘Does anyone know the answer?’ asked the teacher. Aikam’s hand shot up.”
2. “Shoot up” as a phrase has two meanings:
a) To fire a gun a lot at something. “The robbers shot up a convenience store.”
b) To inject yourself with drugs, using a syringe (needle). “The heroin addict was shooting up twice a day.”
And a shoot-’em-up (short for shoot them up) is a movie or game or whatever that has a lot of gun fighting in it. There’s a few songs and a movie called “Shoot ‘Em Up”.

hi emma
thank you for this useful video
i just want to check about the grammar.
we use ADJ+noun and
we use verb+ADV,but you’ve used remained steady.
Steady in this situation is ADJ,but you’ve used with verb.
In my opinion I’m not sure you have to use steadily instead of steady.
Am I correct or no? please reply me.
thanks again

Hello Madam,How are you? You are one of my best English teacher at online studying. Concerning with Writing Task 1, I would like to confirm with you in structure of writing. First, we should write introduction, and then we would mention two paragraphs about two significant points in the graph. Then followed by the conclusion. Is that right? Your response would be highly appreciated.
can i use depict instead of illustrate or demonstrate in task 1 of ielts essay .if we can give me a sentence using that word DEPICT. THIS bar graph depicts the percentage of xxxxxxxx. Is this correct sentence or wrong .if not how can i use this word
at the begining of learning IELTS, i think i cannot figure out. but watching this videos, i notice an increase in my IELTS. thank you for such good lessons! good for you!
Hello dear Emma,
first of all, I would like to thank you for all of the lessons, you are a good teacher.
Next, there are two questions I have for you: first, in other video in this Link https://www.engvid.com/ielts-writing-task-1/ Adam says there is no conclusion in task one, it contradicts with your presentation.
the second one is based on Lesson 25 from the book “common mistakes at IELTS Intermediate” by Pauline Cullen, lesson 25, demonstrate cannot be used for describing a chart.
would you guide me please?
Thanks!
wonderful lesson, but I’ve question, can i write like this sentence? and it’s correct? There was a ( slight, moderate, sharp or significant) increase from 2000 to 2002.
hi emma !! i watched the video of teacher Adan, this link( IELTS Writing Task 1 – What to write! 3-Advanced • IELTS • writingand ) , and in some part of the video he told that ; you don´t put conclusion, because you connot put your opinion. So in the question 3 ask about it, I had a doubt, put the conclusion or not? thank you so much, and i love your class.
Hi Emma! I found this lesson very useful. Can I ask you if there is the second part of the lesson where you explain hot to write the body and the conclusion? Thanks a lot.
Hi Emma;
Thanks a lot. It was very useful.
What about the other sorts of illustrations like pie chart, bar graph, flowchart and table which you mentioned in the video. Have you explained them in another videos?
Best Regards
The title of the lesson may look very boring, especially for those who are not going to take IELTs tests, but thank you so much Emma!
You turned this topic very interesting. You did your best for us and this lesson is one of the best IELTs lessons :)
Hey Emma, after watching your videos I started to regret about applying for an Ielts courses which were really expensive in my country :D, but anyway, I wanted to ask you, how about if we have for example: 1900 and 2015(which is current) what tense should I use in entire graph describing.
Would appreciate soon answer, because I have a Ielts exam the day after tomorrow(we can say tomorrow because it is already past 00:00) :D, wish you all the best, stay smoothly and easy understandable.
Hi Emma, as my understanding, the task 1st does not require a conclusion, because we just describe what info graph is, don’t need to provide analyse or meaning of it…
Hi Emma. Thanks for the help. You mention several times how crucial the conclusion is. However, there are videos in the channel that are really adamant about not writing a conclusion. Would you clear that up for me? Thanks
Hi Emma! Where can I find your tutorial to improve coherence? I badly need one. I’m planning to take academic IELTS this coming April. By the way, this video is so helpful. Thanks so much!!!
Hi Emma, Your lesson was an informative one. Really appreciate it; And I’d wish to know, what if I use “Over the span of (decade)” instead of using between 1990 and 2000.?? Thank You!
hello, Emma.I hope you will be fine. Last day i was watching a video on IELTS writing task 1 by Adam. He said there is no conclusion in task-1 but you say there must be conclusion. This confuse me a lot. Kindly elaborate it. thank you.
Yes, I am also confused this issue as your comment. In Adam’s video with topic ” What to write”, he said that no need conclusion in Task 1 because it’s report. However, Emma says “Need”. Kindly clarify and feedback me ASAP with thanks!
I don’t even know if I’ll take the IELTS some time in the future (probably not), but if I decide to, and I get a pic of you instead of a pie chart, I won’t need 150 words to describe it, because with just 3 is more than enough: “Incredibly beautiful woman” :)
Hello emma!
i’v written a report in a fixed time of 20 mints, could you please send me the feed back and your prediction about my band score please?
here’s the report;
(there were a table chart and a pie chart)
=>
The charts demonstrates why the adults go on for the studies and how cost of studies must be shared.
firstly, in the bar chart, interest in the subjects makes up the highest percentage of the total at 40% following by gaining qualifications which accounts for 38 percent of total at thirty eight percent. the third reason for which adults go for the studies is being helpful for current jobs by a percentage of 22%. some other adults keep their studies going on for the cause of improving the prospects of promotion and enjoying learning which stands for 20 percent who have chosen the both reasons. meanwhile a small percentages regarded the reasons of being able to change jobs and to meet people.
the pie chart illustrates how the cost of each course should be shared. a very large percentage stands for individuals precisely 42 percent which makes the largest percentage. employers makes up the second high percentage of a total at 35 percent and finally the tax payers accounts for 25 percent of the total.
Thank you Emma. Please explain why we didn’t use a Passive voice in sentence (2) Sales….. as you mention this note in the lesson of (How to describe a process)?
Emma you are the best teacher…

best teacher. you are looking gorgeous.

hope – is abstract verb so you may not use it with ing ending.
Yes you may use the word hope with an “ing” ending. EXAMPLE: I was hoping I would get married before I turn 30 years old.
I’ll wait for your answer. Thank you
Hi Emma you are a great teacher!
Thank you for your explanation! It is very useful. I’ll try to learn and understand it better.
You’re welcome. Keep learning, never give up. Until recently I didn’t know a word in English, but look at me now, I’m almost an expert :))
hahaha……,smart guy!!!
yo tengo problema con mi pronunciacion y quiero que me ayuden
What’s the difference between Genaral and Academic IELTS ?

can you explain how to pronounce can and can’t.
thank you.
Hi mam Emma,

Thank you everyone for your comments. I know this was a long video. Thanks for taking the time to watch it.
Hi Emma, I love you; your way of teaching is really great, but you don’t do many videos and I wonder why !!?? I have been in Ireland to improve my bad English and now I think it’s a little better than before but not enough to get a job in Ireland or in Britain so I’m trying to improve the language by myself but it’s not so easy and funny like when I was in Ireland. Thank you very much for your attention. You are a great teacher!!!!
Perfectly-I an under huge impression.
Hi Emma, it’s a very nice lesson.
I´d like a lot to be your student forever!
Very young and intelligent woman.

Hi Emma,I was very happ to see your explaining and also I hope to give us more explaining about other parts in that exam If you do not mind .
Hello emma
sometime we can use this word for ex: fluctuation
To change, especially continuously and between level or thing and anothe…
am i right?
u are best teacher
Best wishes
Hi Emma,
Thank you indeed, it’s a very useful course.

Hi Emma,
It is me Javid.

There’s a few songs and a movie called “Shoot ‘Em Up”.

i just want to check about the grammar.
we use ADJ+noun and
we use verb+ADV,but you’ve used remained steady.
Steady in this situation is ADJ,but you’ve used with verb.
In my opinion I’m not sure you have to use steadily instead of steady.
Am I correct or no? please reply me.

Do you have the continuation explanation on academic ? I watched you discuss how to make an introduction.
Thank you.
hi Emma….
Indeed you are a good Teacher……
thanks Emma aloooot realy you are the best teacher i love you .You give us a lot of encouragement during your lesson

we are waiting your lesson on piechart graph ,flowchart graph and table chart graph.
thanks alot
THanks a lot Emma
Thank you Emma.
Hi Emma,
Could you help me understand about what different between chart and graph?
Thank you very much,
Thank u Emma
Thank you very much for your lesson!
For the third chart as well can be used : “ remain constant“ or “remain at the same level“. This is from my own experience.
You are a very good teacher!
Adam says not to give conclusion, you say give conclusion. i’m little bit confused ! can you please clear this to me ?
looks like easy, but…
Hello dear Emma,
first of all, I would like to thank you for all of the lessons, you are a good teacher.
Thanks!
Good lesson. Thank you very much Emma.
Thanks dear Emma. I learned many new words and also where can use them.
Thank you!
Hi teacher how are you?
Emma,This short quiz was not a good one for this long video and it doesn’t include all ur explanations that you thought us on video
I have been able to hear you clear than other native speakers. I hope the IELTS would be as clear as you sounded?
Hi Emma, I enjoyed this video so much. However, I would like you to demonstrate on Body and Conclusion parts. Thanks in advanced Emma.
wonderful lesson, but I’ve question, can i write like this sentence? and it’s correct?
Thanks a lot.
thank you emma mam love u
Hi Emma;
Thanks a lot. It was very useful.
What about the other sorts of illustrations like pie chart, bar graph, flowchart and table which you mentioned in the video. Have you explained them in another videos?
Best Regards
I want to watch a video about ielts writing body part with Emma but I can’t find
Hey Emma… I have a doubt. why you use between 1990 ‘and’ 1996, rather than between 1990 ‘to’ 1996.
Thank you.
Thank you, very useful
Hi Emma, as my understanding, the task 1st does not require a conclusion, because we just describe what info graph is, don’t need to provide analyse or meaning of it…
Hi,
Can you explain about bar graph please!
emma you are very good and i have a exam ielts in 5/3/2016
and today i understand you about the task 1 in exam
Emma is an excellent teacher. She is my fav!
Hello Emma
I am new with you
I liked very much the lesson
I wish for you good progress
Emma is really awesome, she explains in a way that is impossible not to undestrand.
Thank u EMMA, it was very helpful nad useful for me, u r an angel to me =)
Really I think that writing more then 150 words is a little bit hard … since I must write 15 lines with 10 words at each one !!!!!
Hi Emma, Your lesson was an informative one. Really appreciate it; And I’d wish to know, what if I use “Over the span of (decade)” instead of using between 1990 and 2000.?? Thank You!
thanks Emma and all staff teachers for your efforts we all highly appreciate that and we hope to get fast learning
My interest increases.
Thank you Emma.
Can we use elevate to describe upward movement?
Emma you are a good teacher..your method of teaching is superb.
hello, Emma.I hope you will be fine.
Could I have a next course from this
Emma,
kindly upload some videos of table chart and map please.
very helpful
thanks
It’s great.
Mrs. Emma, your style of teaching is outstanding and i wish to learn more and more from you.
Thanks Emma, it is very useful for me
Hi Emma:
I don’t even know if I’ll take the IELTS some time in the future (probably not), but if I decide to, and I get a pic of you instead of a pie chart, I won’t need 150 words to describe it, because with just 3 is more than enough: “Incredibly beautiful woman” :)
Thanks & greets from Argentina.
Marcelo.
sorry,
but we say over ten years period or over ten year period
EMMA YOU ARE THE BEST “LA MEJOR”
Hello emma!
i’v written a report in a fixed time of 20 mints, could you please send me the feed back and your prediction about my band score please?
here’s the report;
(there were a table chart and a pie chart)
