Saturday, October 8th 2016

Thanks Gill. I really appreciate this lesson. It is hard to use this word, however, it can being used easily. You can replace the word in many situations, but you can’t use it to replace words in writting tests. Is that like an informal word?

Saturday, October 8th 2016

Hi Fernando — thanks for your question :-) Yes, you’re right, ‘get’ is quite an informal word. It’s used a lot in everyday speech, and also in informal writing (letters, emails), but in more formal writing (essays, reports) it’s best to try to avoid it and find alternatives.

If someone tells me “get a life”, should I get annoyed?

Sunday, October 9th 2016

Hi Canardo — if someone tells you to ‘get a life’, they are usually suggesting that you’re thinking too much about small, unimportant things. But that’s just the opinion of the person who says it ;-)
