Hi Alex, let me share some thoughts on the way I look at idioms:

Idioms always make our talking more colorful and natural.

They are useful tools that help us see to some good extent how the English language works.

It was a concise and interesting video-lesson.

      Have a great weekend Alex!!!

      Regino

Thanks Alex always, Can I ask a question?
I thought ‘Down to the wire’ is an adverb but on the quiz it looks like an adjective.
My example sentence is that “I’ll do my best down to the wire.”
However, on the quiz I saw the sentence “It’s going to be down to the wire”
So, is my sentence wrong?

But i have something not clear.
It’s about the sentences from the quiz no. 2 and 10.
“That’s $250 down the drain.”, “That’s three years of my life down the drain!”
From here, ‘down the drain’ is noun?
Or what part is it grammatically?

I’ve been down in the dumps in the last few days, because I was camera-caught making a right turn on red light without stopping first. I may get a $500 ticket. That’s $500 down the drain! I should have been more down-to-earth instead of daydreaming when the yellow light came down to the wire before changing to red. LOL. Thank you for your down-to-earth lesson.
