The Olympics is one of the world’s biggest sporting events. This lesson will teach you key Olympic vocabulary that will help you talk about the Olympics with your friends. It will also help you to understand sports news.
I’ll pay attention to the pole vault n’ that would be remind me u. next Friday are the olympics, I have’t a job, so I’m gonna watch the olympics daily. thank u Emma 4 this wonderful lesson.
hi Emma thank you for this lesson.
I have a question about pronunciation;
why do you pronounce the T in the word Often?
There are two pronunciations of the word “often”. Some people pronounce “often” without the t. As you’ve noticed, I pronounce it with the t. Both ways are correct.
From what I’ve read, I think the pronunciation without the t used to be more common, but now both pronunciations are common.
Congrats you all for the incredible, amazing website ! I’m pretty sure in few month I’ll get the required vocabulary to do tests to prove my fluence in english ! please keep on with your lessons ! I’m greatfull (:
I would like to go to England Olimpic games 2 in 2 days. Thanks teacher ..they are very usefull words.I will be a spectotor in a stadium there :) and I want to watch pole vault games :)) I m very happy because I can use new words in an exaple :)) Thanks with all my heart

hii, Emma
How are you?how your life is going on?I hope everything is in control and your days are passing happily with a lot of fun and smile.I am back here nearly after one month as I had my semester exam.I am pursuing a master degree in computer application from a reputed university known as Kalyani University located in India.I couldn’t view the lessons uploaded during last one month. As I am dedicated to learning English and also passionate about this language,I have already downloaded the lessons as well as started viewing them.Though I have just passed through a one-month-long busy exam schedule, I didn’t skip reading newspaper too atleast a single day.I am trying to improve my english day by day putting in my best effort.I read everything in english, including story books, newspaper,my text books and make sure to watch Engvid-video lessons to enhance my knowledge.Mam,I don’t know wheather I’ve improved or not but would keep trying till my heart stops beating.I’m going to face interviews to make a carrer in software industry that I love the most. It’s well-known to me that I will be asked everything in English and have to answer also in the same language when I have an interview.I have just six months left and everything, required to do has to be done within six months..It’s been enough for today and I am ending my story..Next time ,I will share another personal as well as unforgettable story of mine with you.
Looking forward to receiving a comment.
Thank you for sharing your story with us Sona! I respect your determination and perseverance. Good luck with your interview :)
Hi teacher, I’d like to know, if you could remake the lesson about get, take and make, for me understand better, because you speak more slow and I get the pronuciation also better. tks
I really loved your today lesson. It will very important to me, because I will be able to watch Olympics game and finally I will understand something.
I was wordering if you could tell how can I memorize this words? Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you.
I suggest choosing five words to memorize everyday. Whenever I learn a new word, I write it down in my notebook and write three sentences using that word. I also draw a picture of the word to help me remember it. I look at the word frequently and try to use it in conversation where possible.
You answered me! Let the heavens be my speech! Who, in this land, is going to be against me in this moment of euphoria? Take your sword, perverse man, and fight well!
Emma, you answered me! And you said “Thank you”! But what I, a man filled with a foolish vanity, did for you, my Dear?! Nevertheless, your answer made me smile from ear to ear! Indeed, I’m still smile from ear to ear…
…Ok, I’m acting like a fool and I’m sorry. It is the effect of happiness.
I didn’t pollute this comment section before because I had lost my dog and I got sick. The strange part of this is that I never had a dog.
Well, straight to the subject: here I am, Emma. We have unfinished business and we gotta to face reality.
I will (not) be brief. As you know, my words are like ATHLETES running on a TRACK without a goal and in circles. Well, here’s the thing:
In one of your videos, you said that Wolverine is Canadian. Emma, you have a purity soul, how could you say such a thing? Isn’t that true that Canada is one of the most beautiful and peaceful place in the world? But, in other hand, Wolverine is clearly a son of violence, arrogance and corruption! The Anger was Wolverine’s trainer and Hate his Coach. Well, it is possible that I’m exaggerating, but look at Brazil: See? Wolverine is Brazilian! Emma, have you ever been to Brazil? Here we have good people fighting bad people all the time…!
…My blood runs eagerly for justice and the compassion is my REFEREE. So, I live in this contrast, like a contrast between a scared child under his bed and a menacing and overcast sky discoursing with thunder lights. I cannot punish my enemies because my Compassion stops me using my conscience… And because I’m weak, but I’m sure this is an insignificant detail. The fact is that clearly Wolverine is brazilian! You, Dear Emma who I estimate so much, should reconsidered your words and accept Wolverine the way he is: a violent knight-errant born from violence and made to bring justice to Brazil.
Yep.
No, no doubts. I’m sure.
If you must know, I might be his brother. Yep. Wolverine is my little brother. Sorry, Emma, no heroes for your country. That’s the price to live in such beautiful place. But who needs a hero when have guardian angels like you?
Thank you for this lesson, Dearest Teacher! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand… I almost forgot… A fan is a person who would rather watch the new BATMAN movie than sports. You might make a correction on the answers of your Quiz. (I’m Kidding, Dear Emma!).
At last, we are still looking for a person who likes his little brother. I do not like mine (which is Wolverine). He keeps thinking that he is better than me (Could you help me on this last phrase? It has sounded strange, more than usual).
BATMAN, FTW! (I’m still sticking with James on this one!) Emma, My best wishes to you!
I meant “you might need make a correction” instead “you might make a correction”.
But I think both are wrong. Or maybe there’s a better way to express this idea. Would you mind give me a hand (again) Dear Emma? xD
It’s me again. I’d come here to see more videos and somehow I finished here on your comment section, then I started to torture myself reading my own comment (It is always embarrassing to me, I feel silly; maybe Wolverine is really Canadian, nor Brazilian, either my little brother). As I said, I was reading my own comment, and I found a terrible mistake!
… “In this land” was written, and I’m honestly not happy about it! Who the hell wrote it?! <– (can I use simple past to make question in this situation?).
… Directly to the subject, what should I use? 'In this land' or 'on this land'? 'In this situation' or 'on this situation'? I googled for help (can google be a verb?) but google always says that I am wrong. How rude! Who is him to JUDGE a man? How can I be always wrong? I must be right in some point. It is the law of nature.
Emma, as it is known, you are a busy person and cannot waste your time explaining it to me, especially because it is NOT the subject of this lesson. Here, we are discussing the Olympics vocabulary, and I understand. BUT ON OTHER HAND, it's well known that I'm a fool and could really use your help… xD
I have taken up too much of your time already and I won't trespass on it any longer… You have heard a tale of a man who thought he was little Wolverine's brother, haven't you? Well, once upon a time there was a tough gentleman called Batman and a weak, toothless and insolent man called Wolverine whose body was under a thick and disgusting hair.
Ahaha! I'm joking, Emma.
Sorry.
I got it; no more waste of time.
Finally, Dear Emma, in case of you really are outta time, just point what is right, and I swear that I'll try finding a pattern, a parameter or just bothering you again. I'm a good student, am I? I wonder if I'm doing this right. xD
Dearest Teacher, thank you in advance, I beseech you to accept my sincerely regards! (Is that redundant?)
(A long letter again, my excuse is that I'm practicing and trying to learn) =P
There are also judges that don’t give any points, but make sure that the rules are respected. E.g. in athletics (track and field) there are like more than 100 judges for the competition and like 10 referees that are say “head judges”:)
And Winter Olympics are also held every 4 years
Hello, Emma. Can you help me? I have a question. How to use ‘ I don’t have’ and ‘I have no’. I should say ‘i don’t have friend’ or ‘i have no friend’? Which one is correct?
Congratulations Emma for your very good classes. I admire your teaching way, always smiling, calm and respectfull to the students.
What language do you learn?)
Senhorita Emma,

Hi Emma, I have problem with speaking, I understand people when they talk, but find difficulty to communicate with them. And that really make me upset. Please give me any advice or suggestion that can help me, and I’ll be grateful
