thx mr jon i’d injoied the lesson and i want to give us the inf words because we don’t know them and our teachers didin’t give us them and thx a lot lol
At first I thought I would use the video with some students but then it deteriorated. Although “crapper” and “shitter” may be used in some groups, I do not think it necessary to teach those words. maybe there should be a “mother approved” version of the video as well as the original. :-)
I always say that we should not be afraid to teach everything. As long as people understand that it is informal and should not be used in certain situations then it is up to the student to make the correct choice. There are plenty of movies that use very informal language, but some students do not understand. This is their opportunity to learn the difference. I appreciate your comments. Take care, Jon
Jon, thank you, it was very useful in fact. I loved to know how to say those words in English, because at home with my boyfriend (whos an English speaker) I do not need to use formal language. I learn English and help others with what I already know and Im glad to know new things. Yes, I listen to many expressions in English movies that I really do not understand.
Thank you again!
Regards,
Andreia.
Hey, Icannon,
My name is Osama, I am majoring in English language and want to ask u a q,plz?
how can I ask my teacher about the subject included on an exam; the pages. thanx.
Thanks a lot for the useful & very funny explanation. It sticks to the memory the moment you’ve explained the meanings of the words. FUN! Normally, a person feels quite embarassed in such situations.
Lessons like these make remember them for a long time. It was as much hilarious as useful. :-))) In addition i`ve got piece of history (about inventor of flashing toilet :-) ) Thanks a lot, Jon! )))
A drain (noun) means the part of the sink where the water goes. To drain (verb) in this context means to make disappear, relieve yourself. To leak (verb) also means the same thing. I hope that helps.
thanks a lot sir

Bye :) Have a nyc Day
I’m pleased you like the site. I think that the best way to learn a new language is to immerse yourself. Watch videos (movies) in English, read English websites, and perhaps you can find some online English social sites. I do not know any sites in particular, but even if it is something like Facebook it can be helpful. Good luck.
to John, to all the teachers and to engVid; watching your lectures every night is already my habit. Before going to bed I make sure that I see your educational videos. Thank you so much. engVid and the rest of the lecturers are great!
n we call it “small room” here in Indonesia.. ;)
what about from other language?
try to translate it into English.. it’ll be fun.. :D
e.g. from our neighboring country, they call it “day-dreaming room” as translated into our language.. :P
Hi Lol ! Whassup baby . Plz babe can ya tell me the meaning of your name . Baby Ineed to know . pLZ HURRY UP OR ELSE I WILL ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am muhammad fiaz ,i have done master in english literature and by chance i got that site and no doubt you have learned me some new words in shape of vocabulary . i am thankful to you for this effort in which you are teaching others …ALLAH give you more power in spreading of knowledge …………
hey jon me and my sister was watching your video ,she said you doing a great thing for everybody in the world.sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelovvvvvvvvvvvve it.
I think WC is the abbrevation of Water closet and not Washroom as you showed on the board. Also I wonder why do they call it “restroom” when no one would like to rest in that room… have any answer.
You are correct. WC does stand for water closet, but wee say washroom. I agree…i wouldn’t want to rest in there either,
They why we say it restroom,I m pakistani,N here usually many of the person consider washroom as rest room!PEOPLE i wanna i wanna fresh n up in the rest room, instead of washroom people say restroom,is it correct to say dear?
but when you go to the toılet you feel relieved…thinks the time when you have constipation..it is a bad thing, isn’t it…so I think they thought this way and named it as a RESTROOM:) AM I RIGHT JON??
hmm.. interesting..
i think the name came up from a room used for girls when they want to have a ‘rest’ from their boring dates in a fancy restaurant (the room with many mirrors, where we can redo our make-up)
or simply just the ‘rest’ of the room as in ‘last part’..???
who knows.. heheee..
Just to add teacher, I think in Brazil we can call it “restroom” because we have the bathroom complete so you can have a bathtub that you can add scents to the water and have a very nice rest! The shower or bath is separated by a curtain or something we call “box” which is actually a glass door. You have been to Brazil so you might know that right? Well to be really relaxing it has to be of course very clean! It is not suitable when people have no hygiene. So, there are many ways you can make your “restroom”smells very good! Thank you for the lesson, I’ve enjoyed it.
Hi Jon,
I like ur style. Can u explain wt is d differnce between these words hope/faith/belief/trust. Plz explain with examples. Thank you kindly.
Before I do this I want you to look at an English dictionary – one where they use the word in a sentence – and read these words in the context of a sentence. Then, try to write the words in a sentence (separately) and then ask me again if you still do not understand.
Defecate. But if you are in a formal setting it would be best to just leave out the details and tell people you need to use the restroom/bathroom/toilet.
u know what.. funny thing here in Indonesia, we call it “throw the big water” n for pee as “trow the small water” n those are the most polite way to say here.. LOL
Hi! I really enjoyed the lesson, Jon! You’re a very talented teacher, I think it’s really important to make the lessons interesting, so that students can have lots of fun while watching the videos! Thanks a lot and take care!
