As I see you are “Latina”. So do I. The difference of this words ending in cion, sion, in spanish is that the strees goes precisely on this syllable and in English, it goes just before that syllable.

      Sorry, Stress…

Hi, Emma, you mention many times the word “pronunciation”. Have you notest that these word ended with “ion”? Oh, by the way, I said “mention”? You know in English language in a sentence normally occurs at least one time the use of a “ion” word. Cheers

Jorge Pedroso

thanks emma ..

rachid501

I have difficulty understanding spoken English. Is there someone here who can give me tips on how to improve it?

Bia Rapun

    The only thing that can help you to understand more the spoken English is this;
listen to English, all day long if possible.

Podcasts are great for this, and you can repeat them when in doubt. But also listen to the news, music, movies and of course YuoTube videos in English.

    Evaldo Mendes

Thank you very much for the tips.

      Bia Rapun

    Hi Bia,
I think if you watch movies in English with subtitles also in English will help you to get the pronunciation faster. Other way are the news channels like CNN once you will be listening to the news but at the same time seeing images that can tell you the context and facilitate the comprehension. Hear English all the time, as much as possible, so your mind will start to recognize the new language in a natural way.
I hope it help you in your objective. Take care!

    Saar

hi Bia Rapun, how r u ,hope u will be fine,i need your help how to improve my vocabularies and reading passages, and speaking plz help me about this thnks

Hello Emma, would you mind telling me the rule of pronouncing the letter G as in the word magic and the same letter as in the word big

RoZBiGo

G as in “big” is called a “hard G”, and G as in “magic” is a “soft G”.

Usually, when the vowel after it is A, O, or U, it’s a hard G. (e. g. “gap”, “goal”, gun”). But if the vowel is E, I, or Y, it’s a soft G (“gem”, “ginger”, “gym”).

If you see two G’s in a row, it’s usually a hard G (“ragged”, “bigger”, etc.) If you see “-ng-“, it’s usually a hard G (“anger”, “banging”, “tangy”).

There are always exceptions! For example, “get”, “girl”, and “forgiven” are hard G’s. “Change”, “angel” and “passenger” are soft G’s. These are only a few, so here’s a longer list.
