Learn how to use ‘no’ and ‘not’ properly in English. Confusing them while speaking is a serious mistake, but even many native speakers don’t know what the rules about this are. In this English grammar lesson, I give you some clear rules you can follow on when to use ‘no’, and when to use ‘not’. Oh, one note: in the lesson, I suggest not using these words in the same sentence. To be clear, they should usually not be used together in the same *clause*.

this website is awsome .. I’ve learned so many things here .. thank you so much!
Hi James. Could you give us some lessons about idioms and slangs?
big thnxxxxxxxx madam
Thank you Mr. James for simple and clear explanation.
mr james , you a funny teacher who Atract his student , thank yuo a teacher
Very helpful. Surprising how much English grammar is “intuitively known” by a native speaker.
hi .james . wonderful teacher
Very well I learned who use no/not
Great !
im very impressive with your lesson, im a beginer to english! you have your own individual way of teaching, i love it…..
you are right…hes unique..original…a great way of teaching…great!!!!!
Dear James,
Thanks a lot for your funny lesson. what I would like to know on this theme: You said that we do not use “not” before an adjective and noun combination. But what if I write like this” John is not a lazy teacher”? Here the adjective “lazy” & noun “teacher” aren’t in a combination form? My second question, said “no/not” aren’t go together in one clause. But look at the following dialog. Fre you crazy
if it possible to let me answer you this question “John is not lazy” I think that mr.James said that after verbs we have to use “not” and in your sentence the verb is”is” so simply we use “not” . so it would be a good idea for you to watch the lesson again in order to understand it more and more.
correction for my second question. Fatma,y are you crazy? No, am not a crazy. would u explain me on these issue? thank you so much for your kind help
it is really helpful to me. thank you very much our kindness to us.
thank you for your classes. I want to take a TOEFL exam. Can you help me,please.

Thank you
Have a nice day
how to download lesson?
It is not possible at this time. YouTube doesn’t allow it.
Very useful explanation:)
I love english:)
thank you a lot my funy teacher
i think mr.james is very good in english doing a very good job but the only thing i felt he has learnt by his own & he is used to that language but if a person whose mothertongue is not english will find it very difficult to learn so i think some more study on how a person will quickly grasp the technique of using english should be done.

thanks alot you are the best
greaty oh!
thanks lot teachers for everything
thanks!
Hello James,
Thanks for awesome lecture and made your mind clear ……. I have a question, u said in lecture that use NO with the combination of adj and noun.So is it right way to use………. They are not good people…………..Please reply soon
oh bad! sir James do not reply to your question… but i think your sentence is correct.
But there was the combination of adj and noun…………………
yap…but good only modifies people and it is positive… but, it might be wrong if you use bad as modifier to people… then you use not bcoz it becomes double negative… like, “they are not bad people” bcoz it means they are quit good people.
Sorry James….. Made our minds clear instead of your mind………. Sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
thank you very much sir and maam to add more knowledge about english……..
thank you mr james
thanks a lot your style is amazing but you speak quite fast to be understood for beginner students.
Thanks a lot
This is the good lesson, but I wonder James said that ” No don’t use with much/any/many/enough” but he give example for yes/no question is “no, I don’t like any cake” is it different?
yes, bcoz what i understood is the “no” from that sentence is a dependent clause from the independent clause I don’t like any cake. what sir James used is “not” from the word “don’t” means do not. you can write that sentence in this way “No! I do not like any cake.”.
ahhh! now i can understand, thank you very much totong. ^_^

excellent sir james , i have impressed very much from you, i had been searching this topic on internet from many days but i didn’t find any thing in detail but at last i got it thank you MR james
as you have told us that for any/many/enough/much we have to use not but what about “MORE”
mr. james tell me please “there is no cat in a room” or “there is not a cat in a room” both sentences have same meaning or not
“this is not a chair” and “this is no chair” have same meaning
because you said “not” is used before noun with article
“this is not a chair” and “this is no chair” have same meaning???????
because you said “not” is used before noun with article

The instructor seems to be very comfortable during the class. The lesson and the rules are easy to retain. The visual supports used to convey various rules to the learners are very relevant to me. As an English learner, this is a class could attend without hesitation.

James, maybe you could enrich this lesson by explaining how we should use ‘none’ properly, huh? thanks in advance ;) PS> I love your lesson with the Bale’s outburst on the set of “Terminator”, btw, you should do the same on the (bad) language from “Full Metal Jacket”…
