Tuesday, July 22nd 2014

hey teacher, thanks for the lesson!

Can I use “great” as a synonymous for “big”? or should I use another word? I’m not sure if both words means the same.

Sorry for my broken english!
greetings from Brazil!

Tuesday, July 22nd 2014

    That’s okay.

    “Great” is not typically used as a synonym for “big,” but it can have a similar meaning to “grand.” Both words imply some form of spectacle and…grandiosity? Which does imply largeness.

    Sorry for the vague answer here!

    Wednesday, July 30th 2014

Wednesday, July 23rd 2014

thank you so much!!!
may you explain to me how to use “keep” in below construction. i’m really so confused when we should use ” keep + object + adj”, “keep + object + present participle” and ” keep + object + past participle”.
i read them a lot but i don’t understand how to use the in a particular situation.
+++ keep + object + adjective.
(The adjective describes the state or quality of the object.)
EX: You have to keep the food fresh.
+++ keep +object +present participle
(The object functions as the object of the present participle.)
EX:We are very sorry to have kept you waiting.
+++ keep + object + past participle
The object functions as the object of the past participle
EX:The purpose of this report is to make it easier for your service department to keep us informed of product problems.
I’m looking forward to responding soon. :)
