It’s very simple to be polite, we just need to use the right words… :D

Thank You so much Ms. Rebecca and all teachers. It is a great Website.

    Herzlichen Dank! (German)

      Hi Rebecca
thank you for your wonderful lessons.
Could you, please, just explain, why in this video you said – ‘There is many ways how…’ Because ways is plural, so I would think that it should be – There are many ways. This is not the first time I’ve heard this but it’s very confusing. Thank you very much:)

      marika07

Hi Rebecca,

Leonardo

thank you Rebecca, I liked the lesson
I have a question which I have been wondering about, would you please answer me ,,,
when the situation is in the past we would say ”’ if I had known you would be upset, I would’nt have told you,
the question is ,,, can I use the simple past in the first clause ? as follow ,, If I knew you would be upset, I wouldn’t have told you

saad87

thank u teacher , it was very informative, i believe that u could clear my somewhat doubts of this situation , i was confused if it is “should or would ” to be used ,

    jaleel

The first option is the correct one. If I had know you would be upset…

    All the best!

    Rebecca

      is this mixed conditional?

Hi Rebecca ma’am
you are amazing…but i am a lit’le bit confused because i think when we say ‘ if i were………..’ it seems ‘past’.. Kindly make it clear to me…!!
Thanks..!

rifat

    Hi,
Its cover both the situation i.e past & current. When something is happened in the past or near past. e.g if you (recently past or in past) fail to submit the documents in time. Someone can say to you “If I were you I would submit the documents in time”.
    Recently:
When you look someone feel not good. You can say that “If I were you, I would go to the doctor”

and dear Rebecca, we must always use “were” instead of “was”, even for she or he???

You can use either one, but using were is preferable. My best to you.

    Rebecca

thanks for your lesson..it is so useful for all of members from engvid..i will practice and never will not forget this advice..

hermank

thanked for ur lesson

mohammad shahnawaz

You are my best teacher. I’m also an English teacher for elementary level. I had learnt when I was in elementary level that we should always say I WAS, YOU WERE, WE WERE, THEY WERE, HE WAS, SHE WAS, IT WAS. BUT I SEE SOMEWHERE IN BIBLE AND IN YOUR LESSON AS “I WERE”. Please tell me which one is right? I WERE OR I WAS!

If you don’t answer my question AS FAST AS YOU CAN. I may teach my sweet children wrong.

Andrewgajendra

Hello Andrewgajendra! We use “I were” in the second type of conditional sentences. In other cases we use “I was”.

    yerlan95

This is correct. Thanks, Yerlan, for helping out. All the best to you.

      Rebecca

    I were= formal and Polite
    I was= informal.
    Both are correct

    valldecy

    Hi,
In this particular situation we use “were” with every pronoun, like
    I were
    He were
    She were
    They were
    We were
Its mean “If I were instead of you”

    hassanj

we speak i was or i were depend on its situation

    nhuminhha

thanks….good.
Am enjoying and learning too.
