The TOEFL and TOEIC are completely different exams. The TOEFL focuses on academic English and is generally required for university and college admission. The content and level of the test is similar to first year university studies.

The TOEIC is actually much simpler and concentrates on Business English. It is often taken by students to show potential employers their ability to work in English.

Both tests now have reading, writing, listening and speaking sections, though the level of difficulty is much higher on the TOEFL.
