James, when you say:"The best way to avoid this problem is to use the “of phrase”...do you want to say that we can use “of phrase” all the time ? Thanks

BOTH ARE CORRECT. YOU CAN WRITE EITHER James's pen OR James' pen

I am so happy because i found out this very useful classes & advices for English learners, I wonder if these classes are still going on. Today is September 3rd and I saw that all the previous messages are from two years ago.
I hope I can find you still because I need you! I have many doubst when it comes to my writing and speaking English. For instance the use of gerund or the infinite. PLease James, could you tell me which of the followings statements is correct:
It was just a meeting, nothing relevant, with the exception that for the first 20 minutes I was forced to listen to the assistant's merits and experience, so I could understand that it was ok to have the meeting with her instead of him.
Or
It was just a meeting, nothing relevant, with the exception that for the first 20 minutes I was forced to hear the assistant merits and experience, so I could understand that it was ok having the meeting with her instead of him.
Thanks for everything James!

I was making Rieko's "mistake" too. I thought that, since there was an "s" at the end of the word, I had to add the "'".
Instead, (if I got it right) I should have focused on the fact that "James" it's singular. Therefore...if I'm talking about "the Roses' cars" (where Roses is the plural of the surname Rose) I have to add the "'" and not "'s". Am I correct? Thank you.
By the way, your way of teaching is great!!!
