Hello! It’s really hard to know when we have to use “do” or “make”. Most of the time they are part of fixed expressions and there is no explanation for that. We should say: “do the dishes / do housework / do your hair (and) make dinner / make an offer / make money…”
In other cases, there are some explanations, like:”Use ‘do’ when speaking about vague, or indefinite activities. These include speaking in general using ‘-thing’ words such as something, anything, nothing, etc.” (and) “Generally, use ‘make’ when actually constructing or creating something (in other words, NOT for activities).”
I have to confess that these explanations don’t help me very much. I prefer learn the expression and memorize it. Some of the expressions I know by heart and others I have to look for at the dictionary. I hope I have helped. Bye.
